Destination Sommerberg

One of the most modern funicular railways in Germany has been transporting passengers from the center of Bad Wildbad to the Sommerberg plateau for over 100 years. Ride in one of the ultra-modern panoramic cars and enjoy the stunning views as you are taken up.

The 1,250m high tree top walk offers a spectacular 360° view over the endless forests and imposing valleys of the Black Forest. Learn about the forest, flora and fauna of the Black Forest on your way to the top.

380 meters of pure adrenaline await you on our WILDLINE, suspended 60 meters above the ground and overlooking the Enz Valley and Bad Wildbad. It is the only suspension bridge of its kind in Europe that has been built in a curve that goes up. Feel truly free.

Right next to the tower of the Black Forest tree top walk is the forest playground for the whole family. On more than 8,000 square meters, more than 20 different play and learning stations integrated into the forest await young and old.

The whole family can also enjoy a relaxing day with plenty of seating and picnic areas.

The loop trail is located next to the treetop walk tower. Suitable for both strollers and wheelchairs, the 3.2-kilometer gravel path is easy to navigate.

The radio play Heart of Stone ("Das Kalte Herz") by Wilhelm Hauff is played at various stations. It tells the story of the boy Peter Munk's struggle for happiness. Along the way he is accompanied by the little glass man, the good forest spirit who grants him three wishes, and the Dutchman Michel, a huge, broad-shouldered fellow who wants to steal Peter's heart.

On the Sommerberg you will find hiking trails of various lengths. From the panoramic terrace of the Sommerberg funicular railway you can also take a short walk with a fantastic view. It is also possible to hike from the Sommerberg to the Kaltenbronn and to experience the upland moors of the area.

For hikes to the Wildsee moors and Hohlohsee lakes, which offer a unique landscape, the Sommerberg is a good starting point. This is an area where many rare species of flora and fauna live. An old wooden walkway leads to the legendary lake. This is where time seems to stand still.

There is no better way to get some exercise in the great outdoors and enjoy nature and the fresh air, followed by a tasty meal in a cottage, beer garden or pub.

The Sommerberg Barbecue Area consists of two free barbecue areas and one barbecue area that needs to be reserved and paid for. A paid barbecue area includes the weather shelter with seating for 40 people, a lockable storage room with a large swing barbecue in the "Saustallhütte" next to the barbecue area, an access permit and use of the restrooms. You will need to bring your own firewood.
